Hamilton, Waikato
In January 2024 she will be going to live on board the largest civilian hospital ship in the world, the Global Mercy which will be berthed in Freetown, Sierra Leone. There she will be volunteering as a nurse where she will be helping to look after the patients on a ward after they have had their surgery.
Mercy Ships are a charity that provides free surgeries and humanitarian care around Africa. On the African continent, 93% of the population have no access to safe or affordable surgery when they need it. Globally, each year 18.6 million people die from the lack of surgical care. Mercy Ships is dedicated to strengthening countries’ health care capacity through training, as well as meeting individual immediate needs.

This will be Skye's second time volunteering in Africa. While it is a voluntary position and she is happy to meet all expenses including vaccinations, insurance and airfares, she is looking for a little help with the costs of completing the mission.
Mission to Sierra Leone Completed 26 March 2024
Skye has just completed her 12 week stint on the Mercy Ship in Sierra Leone. The work was challenging but Skye thoroughly enjoyed her work on the ship and her brief exploration into SL.
She is keen to repeat her experience one day as she saw many new things and enjoyed working with people from all parts of the world.
Many thanks to all her kind donors who have allowed her to complete this venture and go a small way to covering her costs.
Your contributions are thorough appreciated.
