    Oh wow, what a roller coaster ride the last few months were. Thank you so much for all your support, and if you haven't seen any of my posts, we did it!!

    NYC had a squirrel finish the marathon πŸ˜€ yeah baby, yeah...

    I couldn't have done it without the support of event reading this, with you behind me, anything is possible.

    Cheers again, and for a while I'll rest, next year, couple small events, then big surgery... followed by the next 4 majors!! Woop-woop!!

  • Training, tapering, NYC event itself!

    It's almost unfathomable when I look at my training... 560km over 60hrs, and that's only since July!

    Well, let's say it'll be worth it. Like everyone, I have hard days, easy days and struggle days, but it's the focus that keeps me going. The drive and passion took finish what I start, and besides, when I turn around, you're all there, supporting me.

    Had a squirrel-tastic coaching session with Dave on the weekend. My gosh our Nz roads can be challenging (bumpy on purpose to slow us down and make Nz roads safer??)...

    Anyway, with the session debrief out of the way, we had forward into the tapering section. Personally I find this super hard, not just pushing hard out and building. This tapering and resting, is just as important as the previous 3 months, maybe even more so!

    Dave's been an absolute star, lying to me the entire time, telling me I can do it. Gotta love him.

    Huge hugs to all my supporters, basically everyone reading this.

    Massive shout out to Hollister for supporting me 🐿 to go to NYC. They're giving me considerable help to get there. It's no easy task getting a sponsor, but this company is very supportive πŸ˜€πŸ‘ helping me with London, and now with New York Marathon as well.

    Huge hugs to Mark and Tiffany for believing in me :-) Let's do this, 5weeks to go!!

    What a fantastic day. Drove to Waihi to have a training session with my coach. It's an honor to be supported by one of NZ greats, Dave MacCalman.

    He pushed me hard, but only with my best intentions at heart.

    I gotta say a huge thanks to Jo @ First Scene for really helping the situation. I'll be making an appearance at NYC in the new an approved squirrel 🐿 (yes, not improved, just approved). Had a few stumbling blocks, but luckily I have a massive squirrel-tastic support group of friends and family around me. We making headway, and making it happen :-) Thanks for your support

    So currently there's a few challenges we're working through to try and still get to the marathon... if it was easy, everyone would do it!

    These little challenges make it more, um, exciting when it's all said and done.

  • Still here, still training

    Well, what's yr reason for getting up in the morning? It's cold, the bed is warm, I personally need a clean vision and focus to get me out of bed at 530am. Training is key though, it's the prep I need for my event, to perform as good as I can.

    Pyramid training is going well so far, oh believe me it's not easy, but then again, nothing worthwhile is easy.

    If u want it bad enough, u can make it happen. You've got this.

  • Pyramids are your friend

    So my coach gave me a new training schedule to trial. Gotta try new things to keep on top.

    I was doing 1hr sessions increasing 15min every two weeks.

    The pyramid works like this - 1hr session, then 45, then 30min (with 30sec sprints) - going back up 30min, 45min and 1hr again (with sprints) and counting my cadence in sprint sets.

    We're gonna do this for couple of weeks, then reassess, looking at the last weeks, previous 2 weeks, and last months sessions. Good times ahead :-)

  • Getting there, while on way to getting there...

    It's a slow process (like making cheese) to get to your goals, my end goal is no different. I'm learning the New York Marathon course while on the roller and this is encouraging me. At least I'll know which way to turn and what to look out for on the course!

    The attached picture is of my recovery heart rate 2min post training. I get upto about 155 or so, sprinting for 30sec before finishing. Generally my HR drops to about 95-105 within that 2min. Not too shabby :-)

    Not only had my training increased to 1x hour sessions, my coach thought watching someone run the marathon POV. Actually, it was super helpful.

    As well as that (thanks coach), I was interviewed today by Adrian Hatwell from Vegan Society. I'm gonna be in next issue of Vegan & Plant Based magazine!! Yay!!

    So, thanks again for all your support and confidence in me, I couldn't do this without you.

    I started new 1hour sessions in the roller this morning, an gosh of it wasn't hard getting outta bed for that! Haha, kept thinking to myself "The journey of a million miles begins with a single step"... Got it done, and feel even better afterwards :-)

    Kicking it up a notch, every 2weeks I'm adding 15min to my morning t tea sinning session. This means, by the time I leave for New York, I'll be doing 2.5hrs in the roller, uphill, with semi-flat tires, wearing overalls 5 times a week... nice and ready for NC Marathon!!

    So, just letting you know, the training has been trapped up (thanks coach), my proposal has been distributed and being updated... and Achilles scholarship has been appointed to this guy!! Yes, $1500usd is super helpful for endeavor. Cheers and big thanks to Achilles International. I'm so glad I put in that application, you just never know what can happen, to you apply yourself! πŸ˜ŠπŸΏπŸ‘

    Sooo, I've started training and getting back into the the groove ready for the next 4 months. I figure that maybe with any upcoming challenges, perhaps I need a coach... so I requested support from the elusive, illustrious, marvelous, dependable Dave MacCalman πŸ…πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ˜ I see a coach as someone who'll tell me what a don't want to hear, but need to hear.
