Help Carlos and Jessie get to the New York Marathon

On 5th November 2017, Carlos and Jessie will be guiding Mike and Laura, two blind long distance runners from Achilles New Zealand (a charity that supports disabled athletes), to complete the New York Marathon.

Mike will be competing in his 9th New York City Marathon, guided by his step daughter, Jessie. Laura will be competing in her 2nd New York City Marathon guided by Carlos.

Jessie’s story:

Mike has been in my life since I was 5 years old and has always been my hero. When he took up the challenge of completing his first New York Marathon I was so proud of him taking on such a huge event. His “get on with it” attitude has always inspired me and when he chose to complete 10 New York Marathons I knew that I wanted to be a part of it and guide him in one of them. So this is the year! I have never been much of an active person so training for this marathon has been a great challenge for me and I’m excited to be crossing the finish line with my hero in November!

Carlos’ story:

I have always been a keen sportsman, a go-getter and a doer, always keen to take on a challenge and support others along the way. When Jessie started training with Mike, I was beside them both, hanging with Laura and Boston (Laura's guide dog). After a few weeks of running with Laura she asked me if I'd like to run the New York Marathon with her and I said yes. It is always fun running and guiding Laura and I love the support and excitement I give her whilst we train. The New York Marathon will be my longest run to date and my hardest challenge and I am really looking forward to it.
