Supporting U21 Alpine athletes to represent New Zealand at FIS World Junior Ski Championships Narvik Norway 2026
Nationwide
In 2026 New Zealand could well be sending the largest ever Alpine U21 team to the World Junior Championships.
9 competitors (5 males and 4 females ) have already attained selection criteria. Several more are very close and have until February 2026 for final selection. NZ has the opportunity to send a team of up to 16 athletes.
The event takes place in Narvik Norway,200 km inside the Arctic circle- a very exciting but very remote destination! With a subsequent World Championship competition in Narvik in 2029 this is a great opportunity for our U21 athletes to check out the slopes in advance of that event.
The majority of National Ski Associations provide financial and coaching support for athletes selected.
Snow Sports NZ provide team uniforms but no support for any other additional costs including coaching, travel , accommodation, lift access and insurance costs.
In order to attend athletes will need to completely self fund. Given the location travel and accommodation costs are significant and may preclude attendance of some selected athletes.
100% of any funds donated will be distributed equitably. Firstly amongst athletes attending the event covering event costs. If additional funds are available they will distributed equitably to cover coaches event costs. If further funds are raised they will then be shared amongst athletes equally to support travel costs.
