NZ Men’s Floorball team’s quest to the World Championship Qualifiers

The NZ Men’s Floorball team need your help! The team will compete in the World Floorball Championship Qualifiers in Thailand from 2-6 Feb 2016, taking on Australia, Japan, Thailand, Korea, Malaysia and Singapore.

The team is training incredibly hard to ensure they represent New Zealand well in Thailand as they strive for one of the top three spots to qualify for the World Floorball Championships in Latvia in December 2016.

Floorball NZ is a not for profit organisation and as involvement in the sport is completely self-funded the team would really appreciate any assistance, large or small, you are able to make to show your support and help cover costs. With flights, accommodation, playing, tournament participation fees, referee costs and training facility hire, the cost for each member of the 18 player squad is approximately $2,400.

Floorball is a type of indoor hockey played with a light weight stick and a light plastic ball. Over 2 million people worldwide play floorball and the game originates from Sweden. It is one of the fastest growing team sports worldwide and has gained recognition from the International Olympic Committee in 2008. New Zealanders of all ages are taking up the sport, through participation at primary and secondary school, as well as adult social and competitive leagues. An estimated 1200 play floorball in NZ. Competitive floorball leagues operate in Auckland in Wellington, and there are active floorball teams located in Christchurch, Dunedin, Palmerston North and Upper Hutt.
