Help our NZ Pole Vaulter's have the equipment they need to get to the top. Poles break, scratch and need to be purchased/replaced regularly.
Auckland
We need your help, currently we have poles that need replaced/added to help us continue to be successful on the World Stage and Nationally. Poles are easily damaged and broken and over the years coach McColl has had to purchase all of these right from the start with his own money from an event that was going nowhere with hardly any poles to use to one that is now seeing World Class results. Poles range from $500-$1000 and a full set of poles is around 150 Poles.
In 2014 we saw Eliza McCartney win our first ever Pole Vault medal at an International World Championships at the Under 20 Worlds in Eugene Oregon and in 2011 Nick Southgate placed 4th in the World at the under 18 World Championships in Lille France and Eliza in 2013 also Placing 4th at the Under 18 World Championships in Donetsk Ukraine a year before her medal at the Junior Championships.
This year Eliza placed fifth in the world in her first senior International at the World Indoor Championships and has qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Nick Southgate improving on his PB to 5.47 to place 2nd at the Australian Senior Championships.
Olivia McTaggart, Imogen Ayris, James Steyn taking out national titles and setting multiple Personal Bests. With so many outstanding Junior Vaulters coming through it is really important to have the right equipment available for them.
Currently we have no sponsorships so all Poles have been purchased by coach McColl over the last 5 years.
We currently have no back up poles so if a pole is scratched(very common athletes have spikes in their shoes) or they snap, we don't have a replacement.
We are currently 20 poles short of a full set. Compared to other International centres that have 2-3 sets of poles due to travelling athletes and needing back up poles etc we have done really well with such few poles.
I'm involved because I want to see these top NZ athletes be given every opportunity to represent NZ and put our country on the map as a top pole vaulting Nation.
We rely heavily on equipment and with all the poles being made in the USA/Europe it costs a lot of money to purchase and ship to New Zealand.
