New Zealand’s magical island Steiner school desperate after Covid closures

Our magical, enchanting Waldorf/Steiner school in Waiheke, New Zealand needs a little help from its friends far and wide.

Fossil Bay School rests in a location like no other: It’s nestled into a small farm, peaceful and quiet but for the echoing of native bird song.

Families who live here nurture an outdoor, nature-filled lifestyle. Never will you see as many art studios and creativity than amongst this eclectic community of 9,000 residents.

Steiner education is a natural and welcome fit.

A short ferry ride from our largest city, Auckland, tourists flock to the island to indulge in the world-class restaurants, visit vineyards with stunning views, and relax on the pristine, sandy beaches.

Fossil Bay School is still in its infancy and neighbours its long-established kindergarten, which has fostered the Steiner way of learning into the community. The school was a long-held dream of so many families and after much hard work, it became a reality.

Just as it was becoming financially self-sustainable, Covid came along. New Zealanders experienced some of the world’s strictest lockdowns with schools closed for months and months.

Post-Covid, students have been slow to return and the school is struggling to stay on its feet.
