Wellington sailing team has been confirmed to represent New Zealand and compete in the World Champs in Noumea.
Wellington
My name is Oakley and I am a young skipper from the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club, Youth Scheme in Wellington. I grew up in Wellington and got into sailing through my parents. Around 14 I joined the RPNYC winter program and after two years of that program I graduated to the Under 23 squad. This squad was my opportunity to show everyone what I have got, climbing up the ranks from the start of the season to now, becoming one of the top ranked match race sailors under 23 in New Zealand. Weekend of the 7th and 8th my team took on the challenge of the world champs trials, Yachting New Zealand had told us they were picking the top two teams to go to this world wide event. After beating the toughest team in the trials and coming in 2nd we were confirmed to represent New Zealand and compete in the World Champs in Noumea. The Youth Scheme has never had a lot of funding which is a shame because there is so much talent in our youths. My team and I would love to go and show the world our talent and compete for our country. If you contribute it will be much appreciated and a great help and in return we hope to do New Zealand Proud.
Please help us get to New Caledonia to represent our country.
I am the skipper and helmsman of the team and hope to lead NZ to victory in this competition.
