Porirua girls dream is to represent their school and country in the final of the World Scholar's Cup at the prestigious Yale University.

Wellington

New Zealanders are well known on the global stage for their sporting prowess but less so for their scholarly achievements. These three Aotea College girls are working hard to change that.

World Scholar's Cup is an international academic competition involving debating, collaborative essay writing and a question and answer exam. Tournament of Champions is the final round of the World Scholar’s Cup competition to be held at Yale University. We are looking for funding/sponsorship to send the team of three junior college aged girls (Jemma Brisk, Cerys Poore and Kate Powell) and their coach/chaperone (Sarah Semple) to Yale University in New Haven, United States from 9th to 14th November this year.

To attend the Yale event the team will need to raise approximately $16,600 to cover flights, accommodation, tournament entry fees and local transport to and from the venue. The girls fund raised to attend the Cape Town qualifying round where they placed eighth. However, having exhausted their immediate resources and with only a very short time period in which to raise funds for the Yale event they are now seeking sponsorship from businesses and community groups.

The girls have worked very hard studying and fundraising but without sponsorship they will be unable to get to Yale and represent New Zealand. The team will be grateful for any contribution you or your organisation can make towards their endeavors.

The girls journey thus far has attracted National attention with two articles appearing on the Stuff Website (see links below) and being reproduced in both the Dominion Post and local newspapers.
