Taranaki
As you all maybe aware the Oakura Boardriders Club have been working hard for some time towards building a new skate park for the local and wider our community.
The current park is damaged and aged so needs replacing. The river was undermining the banks of the skate park/park due to development further upstream and had to be reinforced by council but during this work the skate park was damaged.
So, in short we need to move its position as well as renewing the park so it’s more relevant for its users. Many of you may not know but the Oakura Boardriders built and paid for the last skate park over twenty years ago!!!! If you think for a moment just how many feet have benefited from this facility in that time it’s crazy.
Organising the new skate park has been an extremely drawn out process to date however looking on the bright side this has allowed us the time to develop a project far greater than originally envisaged as depicted in the gallery picture.
We are now at the crucial point of the project. We are very grateful that the New Plymouth District Council (NPDC) have funded one third along with funding from New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) and Taranaki Savings Bank (TSB), and we will be in conversation again with these funders once we have set tender prices (Start of Dec), however in the interim we believe that based on similar skate parks we will be somewhere in the vicinity of 70-100k short.
We will take Individual, Family and Business donations and will have a plaque made to suitably thank all donators which will be at the facilities entrance.
Please give it serious consideration as we want this park built this summer!!
