O'Leary Family Triplets

Sarah and I are expecting our third child, except that third child is triplets!

Canterbury

Imagine the surprise (and shock) going in for our pregnancy ultrasound only to find out we're not expecting one child, but three children! Sarah (a red head) and I (not a red head) are parents to two energetic boys (both red heads). We have been gifted the miracle of fraternal triplets (probably three red heads). We want to share our journey, it's exciting yet frightening. We're taking the bull by the horns, but being realistic it's a big job!

Both Sarah and I work full time to support our living costs, however Sarah will need to finish work at around 26 weeks and will likely spend a lot of time on bed rest to support the growth of our little ones. Inevitably this means a long time of limited income for our family and with a mortgage to pay and two other boys requiring child care etc we are cautious about how we will maintain the positive parenting and support for not only the new babies but also our other two boys Olly and Archy.

I'm the dad! So I may ultimately be the cause of the cause.

Use of funds

Triplets are almost always born prematurely and require Neo-natal care for their first few weeks/months. Any generous donations will be used to supplement the support needed for mother (Sarah) and babies. We are realistic that change doesn't have to happen overnight... But this change does. We will go from 2 children to 5 children in an instant. It will likely result in needing new car seats, new beds, clothes, a new car (or two)... A larger house... Only a small list!

29 weeks and an update  9 June 2017

So far I've been pretty quiet about our special journey, so time to break the silence and share the recent milestones and spread the thanks and love to everyone that has been supporting us so far.

It's fair to say that adjusting to triplets has been a shock that we haven't really adjusted to yet. It's been a whirlwind, time is flying by, and it may not be long before reality really becomes reality.

Sarah and Baby A, B & C have made it past 29 weeks. The babies are doing well, all larger than 3lb each, all growth is on track.

Sarah has been off work since 24 weeks, spending most of her days resting at home as the babies grow. Despite this big task she has kept the household running, still looking after our two other lads Archy and Olly.

Last week we purchased an 8 seater car, never thought I'd see the day where I drive a people mover (so we might just leave that duty for Sarah). It is certainly the practical option... Not really a 'car.'

We've had this little Give a Little page for a few months, and we've been overwhelmed by everyone's generousity. Sarah and I are truly thankful for the everyone's well wishes and contribution to our journey.

I will continue to try and post updates on how things are progressing. Next appointment with Fetal Maternal Medicine is on Wednesday 21 June, followed by appointment with midwife and neonatologist... That'll be a fun day!
