We need the community's help to get our buy and sell bookshop on it's feet and provide sustainable and accessible reading for everyone.

Palmerston North, Manawatu-Wanganui

Hi! We are a mother and daughter duo from Palmerston North, NZ, who are passionate about books and sustainability. We want to start a buy and sell bookstore in the heart of our city to reduce waste produced by bookstores, and make books available at cheap prices to everyone. We have estimated a starting cost of $100,000 which includes everything we need to get started, and we know that with a bookstore at out panned scale, there will be a real effect to the waste emissions of our city's book business. We are aiming to have our buy and sell business going from the get go, which will also be great for people who need extra cash and are willing to give away books that will value others. My mother has been trying to start a bookstore for 15 years now, however as a single mum it has been hard to make this vision a reality.I want to restart the reading community in Palmerston North and make our bookstore a 'cool' thing for youth to do rather than a chore as it can seem like to young people. I hope I can make this dream come true and start a legacy for our family. We need your help to make Olive Books a reality.

Use of funds

The money we earn is to be put towards rent for the shop itself, initial book collection from the community and furniture to go in our shop to store books and create a homely environment.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
