Two cats need a foster home. Willing home in Auckland. Cats are in Christchurch. Help!
Canterbury
It is well known that demand for housing is very high in Christchurch at present due to the quakes. For some people like my friend Ali, the only option is to move into accommodation where they can't take their pets. This is heartbreaking enough, but when your cats have health care needs which mean that they aren't easily fostered by anyone but the most willing animal lover, it is even harder.
Oliver Twist (7) is a fluffy black cat who my friend rescued as an approximately 2 year old tomcat. He'd been a stray most of his life by that point and she worked with her vet to treat all the infections he carried. Most were able to be treated but not all were able to be. Recently he was diagnosed with asthma and now he requires people to give him asthma inhalers twice a day - no small feat to do for any cat. Milo (9) is a lovely long haired tabby cat. Both are real gentlemen of cats.
We've looked for people willing to foster Oliver Twist and Milo but we've come up with nothing in Christchurch. However, an Auckland based friend is willing to foster them. She has experience looking after a cat who has a chronic illness.
The cost of sending Oliver Twist and Milo to Auckland is beyond the reach of my friend who is working part time due to chronic illness - even if it were to be loaned. I would like to help her in some way - she is happy for a Givealittle page to go up so that we might be able to raise the money she needs to send her darling cats to a foster home.
My friend works hard to support many other people in her life. She volunteers her time and is one of the kindest, most compassionate, accepting people you could have the privilege to meet. I don't make this request lightly on her behalf. She deserves a break after an extended time of great challenges.
Please help my friend get her cats to the foster home in Auckland. She has tried so hard to find a Christchurch home for them but no one is able to help. I can't help - 3 cats, 1 dog and 2 humans in my own small flat is cramped enough as it is.
All funding will be used for the transport of the cats from Christchurch to Auckland of $145 + GST per cat (Petbus), and any additional funds raised will go towards paying for the cat food, flea treatments, vet bills and any other costs incurred by the foster home once they arrive in Auckland.
I'm involved because my friend needs help.
Milo and Oliver Twist have reached their foster home. 15 April 2015
Our great thanks to everyone who donated towards getting Milo and Oliver Twist to their new foster home. They flew out of Christchurch this afternoon and were met by a friend at Auckland airport early this evening. They have now arrived at their new home in Devonport. Both cats charmed the Air NZ staff at check in and then charmed their chauffeur all the way from the airport to Devonport. They are exploring their new home. Again, thank you very much.
