Fund Raising For Olivia Brain Surgery and Recovery
Timaru, Canterbury
A week before Olivia left for her OE she went deaf in one ear and was told it was because of a flu she’d caught. Thinking there wasn’t much else she could do and since she had her flights booked she got on the plane and moved to London.
Things still weren’t right so she saw a GP in London who ordered an MRI on her head. Turns out there is a tumor growing along the nerves that go to her ear in her brain. They believe it’s not cancerous but it is growing and could result in pressing on other nerves in her brain which could lead to facial paralysis.
Amazingly Olivia has been referred to an incredible neurosurgeon at the Royal London Hospital who can operate on it and take it out. The surgery is covered by the NHS but there is no support for her after and the recovery can take up to 3 months.
That’s where we come in - imagine living in one of the most expensive cities in the world but recovering from a brain surgery and no income.
Every day in September Anna and I going to run 10kms a day to raise funds to help support Olivia in her recovery and then at the end of September Max is going to shave all his hair off!!
Anything we're able to raise will go towards: medical expenses not covered by the NHS, rent, food, family travel, lodging, recovery, rehab, future scans, at home care, unexpected costs, and more.
Along with social media, we will be using this site to share updates on her progress and recovery.
Olivia is beyond grateful for all your love and support.
I met Olivia 10 years ago when we happened to be in the same class at high school, we've been best friends ever since! Olivia, Max , Anna and I all flatted together while we were at uni.
The money will be spent on medical expenses not covered by the NHS, rent, food, family travel, lodging, recovery, rehab, future scans, at home care, unexpected costs, and more.
Thank you: part 2 1 November 2024
To my incredible friends: you were my strength. From organising donations, running and biking hundreds of kilometers, to holding raffle nights and reaching out to business, you have supported me in ways that leave me speechless. I feel incredibly blessed to have friends who would go to these lengths, and I am forever grateful for each of you.
I’ve also come away with a new appreciation for the amazing doctors, nurses and health care workers who dedicate their lives everyday to saving others. To anyone else walking a similar path through health battles, please know you’re not alone. I understand how challenging it can be, and I’m sending strength and hope your way.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. When I’m able to return to New Zealand, I’d love to send each of you a small thank you card. And to the private donor’s, if you feel comfortable, please feel free to reach out to me so I can send a personal card too please.
With love and all my gratitude,
Olivia 💗
