Please help support Travis and his family as he embarks on his journey to recovery and to walk again!

Dannevirke, Manawatu-Wanganui

On Saturday 9th of March, Travis set out with his friend and Dad to go motorcross riding out at Taikorea MX Park to celebrate turning 16 the day before. As we all know Travis has had a love of motorcross for many years now. The occasional bump and bruise and broken limb but he is tough. Unfortunately on this day luck was not on his side and Travis has had a freak accident and came off his bike. Travis was taken by helicopter to Christchurch hospital immediately. Travis has broken his back in 3 places, has a punctured lung and is having trouble with internal bleeding. As you can imagine this is every parents worse nightmare. Travis is currently in ICU in Christchurch Hospital. Sarah and Adam have dropped everything to be by his side. Unfortunately Travis has a long road ahead of him and will need to learn to walk again. It is looking like he could possibly be down in Christchurch for 3 to 5 months. With this comes many worries, especially financially. Sarah and Adam will be looking at a different normality the next few months as they support Travis in Christchurch and juggle time off work and homelife with Mya and Caitlin back in Dannevirke.

If you are in a position to support Sarah and Adam it would be greatly appreciated. Any money raised will be used to support Sarah and Adam to continue to pay their bills while off work, flights and accomodation where required and any medical care Travis may need in the next few months.

Update #5  25 March 2024

Hi everyone, the family have received wonderful news today. The staff at Burwood are allowing Travis, on this coming Thursday, the 28th March to return home to Dannevirke, so he can recuperate and regain his core strength. We are all thrilled at his progress and his returning home. Travis's walking and standing capability is getting stronger though he tires easily. He still has pneumonia but this is being treated with antibiotics.

The medical plan will be in approximately six months time, Travis will have another operation to remove the two rods attached to his spine and he will undergo a bone graft from his hip onto the broken bones in his spinal column. Fortunately his spinal cord has not been damaged. Travis’s still has a long way to go on his journey of recovery, but considering what we were initially told by the doctors his progress is remarkable.

We are therefore going to close down this give a little page. Travis and his family will always be grateful for the love, kindness and generosity you have all shown. We do intend to put further updates up of Travis's progress.

Sincere thanks for all your love, help and support.

Sarah, Adam, Travis de Visser.
