Auckland
To a lot of us speedway is family, we spend a huge amount of time together and when the going gets tough we jump in and help each other where we can. It's time to help one of our family members who has always jumped in and helped others.
Shannon Savage (85a) has been involved in Speedway for over 20 years. He has been involved in Waikaraka Park in streetstocks, teams derbys (Wild bunch), stockcars, an avid member of the Alleycats, ministocks, and most recently superstocks. If he isn't driving he is crewing, mentoring and generally giving anyone a hand that needs it.
Shannon has always been the first one to jump in and help, giving up huge amounts of his time to speedway which he is passionate about. Often too much time as Margaret his partner will say :)
In March Shannon was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer. His whole world changed instantly, since his diagnosis he has had to stop work to have a colostomy bag inserted and is focusing on getting his immune system up so he can begin radiation treatment. Unfortunately in the last few days he has picked up an infection and has had to spend some time this week in hospital. He along with his family have a long road ahead to recovery. Shannon and Margaret have had to cancel their trip to Rarotonga for a friend’s wedding as he has to start treatment.
Shannon will be undergoing 5 1/2 weeks of extensive radiation treatment with a short rest period before having his first surgery to remove his bowel. During this time he is not going to be able to work and there will be times where Margaret too will not be able to work.
Shannon has a great supportive partner Margaret and 3 fantastic children, Desiree, Xavier and Rylee if we can raise enough money not only to help alleviate the huge financial strain this journey is going to place on them but to be able to take a break at the end of his treatment and enjoy a holiday to aid in his recovery it would be amazing. We want Shannon to just be able to focus on getting better so we can see him back out behind the wheel of a Stockcar.
Racers are lucky enough to have 2 families. One they're born into and the other they gain at the track.
Craig and I have known Shannon and Margaret for 15+ years. They are always one of the first people to help others and would give the shirt off their back to help people, now it's time to repay in any way we can to get them through the tough road ahead
Our goal is to raise funds to help alleviate the financial strain this journey is going to take on Shannon and his family.
