Two years ago, I was lucky enough to attend a volunteer trip to Cambodia. Now, I am returning to do the same with Reach Out Volunteers
Canterbury
At the end of this year, I will be part of a volunteer group to Cambodia that is run through Reach Out Volunteers. For the first week, we will be staying in the city of Siem Reap. Here we will help to build new facilities for children in a local school. The second week in Cambodia will be spent in an elephant sanctuary 2.5 hours north of Siem Reap. Here we will be taking care of rescued elephants, monkeys, dogs, and other animals, as well as helping to improve the sanctuary that they live in. Reach Out Volunteers' motto is "Change the world, one village at a time." I believe in this motto and hope that I will be making a lasting difference to the children, families and the wildlife that I help.
I will not know anyone on this trip and am very, very excited for the new adventure, however I can not do this without help. The trips costs a reasonable amount of money and as it is a volunteer trip, I will not be able to pay this back while I am in Cambodia. It would be incredible if anyone was able to help, no matter how big or small, as I am a firm believer that every little bit counts. If I wasn't, would I be attending this two week volunteer trip to Cambodia?
If you donate, I thank you very, very much. It means the world to me.
I am involved in this cause because it is honesty a huge passion of mine. I have always loved the idea of helping animals and people, especially children, and hope that one day I can find a career where I can do this daily, But for now, I am involving myself in incredible opportunities like these.
Both of my parents think that I am crazy for undertaking this opportunity after my first year of university, and maybe they are right, however I say let them think that! I agree with the Reach Out Volunteers' motto of "changing the world, one village at a time," as I been to Cambodia before and seen first-hand the effect that little things can have on people. Helping, visiting, and interacting with the children had such a large impact on me, no matter how little time we were able to stay for. The smiles and joy that reflected on their faces as they see you and play with you is more incredible than words themselves can express. I will do anything to have this opportunity again.
