I plan to travel to DR Congo this August for 3 weeks of surgery alongside local medical staff who run 7 hospitals in the Katanga Province.

Recently I found out about the amazing Congolese folk running seven mission hospitals in the Katanga Province of DRC. My immediate response was, "how can I be involved?" With very little reflection I came to the conclusion that as these professionals are doing what I do (I am a theatre nurse) without all the equipment and supplies I have relied on, there probably isn't a lot I can teach! Nevertheless I have been offered the opportunity to travel there, with a surgeon from my area, for three weeks of surgery- learning and teaching.
These hospitals provide essential care for people with many different health issues, with limited resources available. Some hospitals don't have electricity, and most lack "essential" monitoring and diagnostic equipment. Two of the hospitals, Mulongo and Kasaji, provide key training facilities for medical personnel.
My hope is that I can provide opportunities for my family, friends, and colleagues to hear about this incredible work. Also to give those who wish to be involved the chance to contribute by spreading the word, through encouragement and prayer, or financially. The money donated will go towards half of my travel expenses (flights will be approximately $2500), and any extra will be used to purchase essential equipment and supplies, as defined by the staff on the ground in Congo.

Hi lovely people, thank you so much for your generous support of this project! Alongside local staff we were able to complete 116 operations in eight days at Luanza hospital, Katanga province, DRC. We worked with seven Congolese doctors and three nurses and we all learned heaps. We were able to take four medical ebooks to the doctors and I have sent the remaining $2400 you donated to the organisation as a contribution to the costs of the teaching campaign (the patients received the surgery for free).
These committed, clever, hard working brothers and sisters continue their work serving their people, and your contribution has helped to equip them - thank you.
