Whitianga equestrian Sage Mayo to showjump in Ireland!

Waikato

Sage Mayo is a competitive equestrian rider from Whitianga, NZ who began riding horses in 2010 and has been thriving in the sport ever since. She has worked her way up with young green ponies. Broken bones and bucking ponies have not stopped her but challenged her to learn and improve. She registered with Equestrian Sports New Zealand in 2014 competing in Show Hunter, quickly progressing into Show Jumping. There has been some thrilling success along the way.

Early this month it was announced she would join a team of young New Zealand riders headed to Ireland to compete in the prestigious Cavan Indoor international CSI1* 6-10 November.

Professional Show Jump rider Jacob Thompson from Whakatane is coach of the eight riders including myself selected from throughout NZ.

Sage will travel with her team to Dublin and head to Hadley Sporthorses Galway where Jacob will pair them up with borrowed horses. Jacob will coach the riders helping them become familiar with new mounts, team members will also receive a lesson from Irish Grand Prix rider Olive Clarke - the first lady rider ever to win the Cavan 6 and 7 Year Old Final. After 3 days of learning to master the borrowed horses they will head north transporting the horses and compete for 5 days in Cavan.

There is a professional photographer traveling along with this trip - photo’s and results will be documented on Facebook please see the following link https://www.facebook.com/jacobthompsonshowjumping/

You can also follow S&S Equestrian NZ on facebook https://www.facebook.com/SS-Equestrian-NZ-100808301283257/ which is a page she shares with her sister Sora Mayo who is also a keen rider.

She is also on instagram @sage.showjumping

Please see attached photo of Sage winning a two fence challenge Feb 2019 jumping 1.40m. Also more recently on her way to second place with Luna Eclipse at the Rotorua Spring Show Sept 2019.
