Getting the Otaihanga tip cats healthy, desexed and re-homed (where possible).
Paraparaumu, Wellington
A couple of months ago there was a post on Facebook about some really sick kittens at Otaihanga Refuse Center. A group of us saw it and wanted to help.
So far we have trapped 13 cats :O
-> 7 kittens (3 really sick with ruptured eyes, 3 mildly sick and 1 healthy)
-> 6 adults (1 so sick it need to be euthanized, 2 sick and 3 healthy)
The SPCA have been fantastic and taken on all of the sick cats and kittens. However, the healthy cats fall outside the SPCA's scope to help. That is where we will come in.
Our plan is to fundraise enough money to get the healthy cats desexed, microchipped, deflead and wormed. The tamer cats/kittens will be socialized and find forever families. The more wild ones will be returned to the Otaihanga Refuse Center to keep on top of the rodents.
Some of the fundraised money will go towards ongoing maintenance costs of the colony that is returned to the Refuse Center (food, shelter and regular worming).
Get the healthy cats (that SPCA cannot help with) de-sexed and then ongoing colony maintenance (food, shelter, worming).
22 cats and counting! 25 July 2022
Update: We are now up to 22 cats! 12 have been or will be rehomed! At least two of these were dumped pets. Many of these babies have been very very sick. 7 have been returned to the Greenwaste site near by the tip where we feed/worm them and have organized shelters for them.
We are so humbled by the number of cats this page has allowed us to help!
We know we have at least 2 (probably more) cats to go who will need desexing, microchipping, worming and vaccinating. We also have ongoing costs to feed and worm the cats who were too wild to socialize and rehome.
