Ōtaki Bike Space

$4,026 of $4,000 goal
Given by 4 generous donors in over a year

The Ōtaki Bike Space accepts pre-loved bikes from the community, repairs them and re-gifts them to the community.

Wellington

Since 2017, Energise Ōtaki acting as the Ōtaki Bike Space has been accepting pre-loved bikes from the community, repairing them and re-gifting them.

The Ōtaki Bike Space is a container soon to be situated at central location where we can run bicycle repair workshops, cycle-based events and gift bikes from.

Volunteers donate their time to fix bikes, teach simple repairs, and Road Safety Skills.

We do this because we want to:

- encourage everyone who wants to ride a bike and more mobility for all ages

- reduce the use of fossil fuels – e.g. kids biking to school rather than being delivered by car.

- promote the benefits of bike transport which are that it is better for the environment and health; it saves money and it divertsrecyclable waste from landfill

- connect bike lovers together

About us

Energise Ōtaki connects Ōtaki’s power source - its people - with energy projects to light up our world. From reducing carbon emissions to ending energy poverty to transforming 'waste', we work for healthier environments.

Use of funds

Money received will go towards purchasing expendables such as inner tubes and grease; tea and coffee for volunteers who do the repairs; the location the Ōtaki Bike Space is based at; and helmets for those who can't afford their own when gifted a bike.

Adding a target  31 January 2021

Kia ora,

We have decided to add a target to this page. $4000 will allow us to have enough funds to contribute to buying helmets, bike parts and the location, set up and running of the Ōtaki Bike Space as we strive to make it a more effective resource for the community.

Ngā mihi nui,

Thank you very much for your generous donation. This will be a huge boost to Energise Ōtaki's Bike Space. It will be used to purchase bike parts and helmets, assist our volunteers to run the workshop and clinics, and to hold Bike Space events. Thank you!
