Larissa Salt's cancer battle
Auckland
In 2018, at the age of 13, Larissa was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) in her left leg. In order to stop further growth of the NF1 cancer, her leg was amputated from the knee down as this type of cancer is difficult to eradicate and does not respond well to radiation or chemotherapy. A week before this Christmas, a new 10cm growth was found in Larissa’s right lung. This tumor cannot be surgically removed as it is on her windpipe and the only option is chemotherapy to try and shrink the growth. She also has a small heart murmur. Unfortunately, the medication for this treatment is not funded in NZ and will cost about $2,000 per month. Larissa is a warm and cheerful 17 year old who loves life and her family! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any assistance you can give Larissa in her cancer battle!
