Our Little Miracle

  • Our Super Star

Our little Super Star is doing really well. He's still having ongoing appointments with the physio, speech therapist and the optometrist. Edison has to wear an eye patch for an hour a day to strengthen his right eye now. He Hates it of course lol, but we try and keep him busy and distracted. Edison is very determined to stand but we aren't allowed to encourage it because he needs to sit first. His big sister adores him and makes him laugh all the time. All in all he is one amazing happy little boy and we couldn't be more proud of him.

We also would like to thank my mum who started our give a little page. It's been a huge help and we appreciate it so much. To everyone who donated, it's really meant a lot to us and we want to thankyou all from the bottom of our hearts. Your kindness and support has been amazing and has certainly helped with our journey. Edison brings so much to our wee family and we couldn't be happier with his progress, his smile and laughter fills our home and hearts daily. Thank you one and all, lots of love from Lisa, Maikara, Lilyana & Edison Deer

  • Exciting report from Edison's mum

      26 June 2022

Today (21 June) was such a big step and a huge celebration for our wee boy . Edison has needed oxygen for his chronic lung disease since he was born and today we finally got told he doesn't need it anymore!!!. Edison has come such a long way. No more rolling around on the ground getting tangled in his tubes, or him trying to pull them off or putting them in his mouth lol. Lilyana learnt that he needed his prongs in his nose so she'd always put them back in if he had pulled them out. At times she'd also try and be like him haha . This is such a big exciting change for us. Very proud parents!!! 💙💜

Unbelievably the date Lisa and Maikara were told Edison didn't need his oxygen anymore was exactly 1 year and 1 month since their wee warrior was born. Way to go Edison! Now I know there have been a lot of friends, family and the wider community following Edison's progress and we are very grateful for everything you have done for the family but as this page will come to a close on 31 July it would be really awesome for one final push to get the funds raised into double digits. I know some will think that with Edison now being off oxygen that all the hospital visits etc will be over but that is not the case. Edison will be monitored for another year for his development and movement, eye checks and he's still on medication until September when his due date would have been. So still Lisa and Maikara have a bit to do for their wee boy which is outside of the normal baby things. I take my hat off to them both for their tenacity and strength to get through all that has happened in this past year. Financially, it's been damn hard for them but they've pushed on through but the year has had a huge impact on them as I'm sure you can all imagine so your support is very much appreciated.

  • Edison's first birthday

      21 May 2022

After a very stressful year for Edison's mum and papa Edison celebrated his first birthday on Saturday 21st May 2022. This little boy has shown such strength and tenacity since his early birth this day 1 year ago weighing just 510 grams. Born at a gestation of 23 weeks 4 days Edison has certainly faced many hurdles in his young life. To see him now is nothing short of a miracle. Still on oxygen but so close to having this removed Edison is such a happy wee boy and always has a big smile on his face. He is rolling all around the floor and managing to get up on his hands and knees, so close to working out how to crawl. He loves being part of his loving family and he and his big sister Lilyana are the best buddies. He laughs at their family dog Shadow as she watches over him. Edison still has eye checks at the hospital and is still taking 2 medicines for his liver and has regular visits from the physiotherapist, speech language therapist and nurse to check on his progress. So one year on here's to you Edison may you continue to amaze us with your progress. Happy Birthday wee man. Your support is, as always, very much appreciated and has helped greatly with getting them back up and running after the expense of living away from home for the months they spent in Wellington and the weeks without wages while they were hands on with Edison in NICU.

  • Update on Edison's progress 4.4.22

Lisa, Maikara, Lilyana & Edison thank you all very much for the messages and donations made to their Give a Little page so far. They have been blown away with the support they have received and the heartfelt messages are truly appreciated.

Little Edison, now 10 months old, (6 months corrected) remains on oxygen and still has appointments at the hospital with an eye specialist from Nelson. It’s lovely to see Edison following movement and enjoying his toys and he loves to watch Lilyana dancing around the lounge. It makes him laugh watching her antics. He continues to have visits from support services to catalogue his progress. He’s rolling over but not sitting yet but we’re working hard to build his tummy muscles up. With him being born 16 weeks 3 days early his little tummy muscles haven’t had the normal period inside his mum to develop. Normally a baby would be curled up in their mothers womb which allows the time for these muscles to develop, instead he has been on his back for the biggest majority of time for the first 5 months of his life, suffice to say his back and neck muscles are very strong. It’s lovely to see the great progress he is making and his big smile lights up our day. He is such a happy little boy and we’re all looking forward to the day when he can have the oxygen prongs off. Every now and then Lisa takes the prongs off just to give Edison's wee face a breather from the sticky tape that holds the prongs in place. It's so lovely to see him without the prongs and I bet he loves it too. Once again, thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

  • February Update - Our Little Miracle

      14 February 2022

Little Edison remains on oxygen and last week had his fortnightly eye check and blood test. Dr is happy with the progress on his right eye since his operation at Greenlane and his blood test was pretty good. Lisa is now able to take him off 2 of the medications he was taking, so now down to only 2 sorts. This is all progress. Unfortunately last week Edison's papa came down with a sore throat that got worse and turned into a bad cold so Lisa packed up Lilyana & Edison and moved home for a few days. She unfortunately had to pack up again and move home when I (her mum) woke with a sore throat. We have to protect Edison from coughs and colds while on oxygen as his lungs aren't strong enough to cope with anything like this because of his chronic lung disease. We are looking forward to the day when Edison comes off the oxygen and can manage his breathing unaided. We wish to thank everyone so much for their donations and messages. We have been very touched by the support we have received.

  • Update on Edison, "Our Little.Miracle"

      27 January 2022
    Main image

Edison flew to Auckland on Sunday 16 January with his mum and papa for another operation on his right eye. He had to be at Starship on Monday morning and was then transferred to Greenlane for the op then back again to Starship for the night with his papa, staying with him for the night. (Only one parent can be at the hospital.for the night because of.COVID restrictions) The surgeon was pleased with the op and Lisa, Maikara and Edison flew back home to Blenheim on Wednesday to be reunited with their daughter Lilyana. Fortnightly eye checks and blood tests will continue for some time to come. Lisa and Maikara have been blown away by the number of generous and kind people who have kindly donated and thank you all from the bottom of their hearts. I too have been amazed at the support this page has generated and I know it will help ease the pressure they have been under. Despite all that Edison has endured tsince his birth he is a very happy and content wee boy.

I am so happy this wee Pepe seems to be doing really well. I wish him swift recovery and all the best to his mummy and papa. It has been an extremely stressful time for them and both emotionally, financially and spiritually draining. It was a pleasure to make a donation for such a worthy cause. All the best
