Jello just had her follow up X-ray and blood tests.

Her lungs are now fully inflated but there’s still a little bit of fluid on the left lung and she has anemia (likely from being so sick).

She has another two weeks of antibiotics and she should be fine after that.

Another $850 at the vet today. Hoping that’s all now. Just under $8000 all up.

Thank you again for all the love and support ❤️❤️❤️❤️

  • Day one at home with Jello

My day has been spent watching her breathe. Counting each breath for 15 seconds. Resting healthy cat should be 30-40 per minute. She went up to 64 earlier today which was scary. She still has one collapsed lung so it’s still a struggle for her.

She’s happy though and has rested a lot.

    Jello is home!

How it all happened…. So a month ago she had a cat bite we think (vet couldn’t find where but there’s a cat that attacks her and chases her even on our property) and she was taken to the vet and had a course of antibiotics. She seemed to come right, two weeks later I noticed a scab on her head, thought that was the bite. She didn’t get sick then and two weeks later she was fine and Monday morning a little off her food, thought nothing of it and Monday evening she was struggling to breathe and near death.

The vet said that this is common and can happen as a secondary type infection where it travels through the bloodstream to the lungs and causes pneumonia and pyothorax (pus in the pleura). It’s the spread of bacteria to the lungs, can also happen if they get a migrating foreign body like a grass seed in their chest cavity or trauma from falling out of a tree or hit by a car etc. We have to keep an eye on her especially when the antibiotics stop, just to make sure it’s gone and not just kept at bay with the antibiotics.

So for anyone that has a cat that gets a cat bite infection, keep a close eye on them at week 2-3 as that’s when this type of disease presents itself.

The current vet bill is just over $7000 with another visit next week for sedation and more X-rays and more blood tests so likely another $1000. Thank you again to everyone for love and support. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

She’s had one drain removed and she’s looking much better. She’s still receiving IV fluids, antibiotics and pain meds.

She managed to have some food and was trying to move around a little more. She’s a little fighter. We are feeling way better about her prognosis. We just need to be careful when she’s discharged as she will be susceptible to getting it again.

We just went and saw Jello at the vet, she has two drains and they are draining fluid and pus every 4 hours, she’s on IV antibiotics and opioids for pain.

She had a tiny bit to eat and she’s doing a tiny bit better but ilher breathing is still very laboured.

The vet is waiting on the cultures to know what type of bacteria is in her lung pleura.

There’s still a chance that it could be a foreign body causing the issues and we won’t know until they xray or CT scan tomorrow.

She purred a little when we all gave her pats, she obviously missed us and is fighting as hard as she can. ❤️
