We are working and training hard to get to the Trans Tasman Sprint Champs and we're nearly there! Help get us to the start line.
Wellington
Kia ora tātou. We are a rowdy bunch of 10-13 year olds and we love to paddle. We have been training up to 4 days per week in preparation for our Trans Tasman Championship, a little more than 2 weeks away now. We have sold raffle tickets and yummy goodies door to door throughout our neighbourhoods. Very soon, we will hold sponsored long distance paddles, throwing in sausage sizzles as well.
We are nearly there! We still need to make another $4000 to cover costs for accommodation and food. We love our little community for all the support they give us but you can only sell so many raffles and sausages in this littlle town.
We think that what we do is pretty awesome. For a few hours a day, we put down our books, our devices and head out on the water. We bond with our team mates, win races, lose them, dust ourselves off and learn how to be awesome at what we love doing - paddling outriggers on lakes and oceans. By doing this, we have learned to support each other, take responsibility for our actions, be humble, keep learning and most of all have fun outdoors.
Heading off to Gubbi Gubbi we hope you'll support us to be ambassadors for our sport, our community and country and to make really positive connections with other Trans-Tasman clubs.
Ōtaki Waka Hoe Charitable Trust is committed to growing the potential of its community of youth, particularly those living in the Ōtaki region. Through waka ama and its associated cultural traditions, we support our youth to become healthy, resilient young adults.
The money will cover the cost of food and transport for our Under 12 and Under 14 squad. Any extra funds received will go towards our uniforms and equipment.
