Helping Alvin Prakash restore his vision!
Auckland
A young man lived a normal life in Fiji up until 2010, however has been going through tough journey since then.
Alvin developed cataract in his left eye in 2010 and lost total vision due to prolonged delay with surgery in his home country.
Later, he also developed another cataract in his right eye, had a laser eye surgery that did not go very well which left him with a scar in his right eye. He needed eyeglasses to have clear vision.
Alvin’s life took another turn recently.
Alvin developed some more issues in his only eye that has vision, gradually losing vision.
His daily life routine became regular visits to the eye clinic, some 3 hours away from his home as well as being fully dependent on others.
For the last 12 months Alvin is having blurred vision, even with the use of eyeglasses.
Medical experts in his home country (Fiji) advised that Alvin’s vision could be restored by a Cornea transplant, something that is not available in his home country.
A month ago, Alvin got accessed by medical experts in New Zealand who have given him hope that restoring vision in his only eye is possible through a Cornea Transplant.
The total cost for the surgery at this stage is NZD$25,000.
Alvin is not a New Zealand resident and is not eligible for NZ public health funding.
Alvin’s surgery has been scheduled for March 2024, funds for the surgery needs to be arranged by then.
Your generosity, no matter how little it is, will make enormous difference to help Alvin regain his independence.
Alvin Prakash is my youngest brother. We brought him over to New Zealand for an assessment. The medical experts (Re:Vision Auckland) have given hope that Alvin's vision in his only eye could be restored via Cornea Transplant.
All funds raised will go straight towards the cost of the surgery
