Please help us to keep our furbabys right leg, or worst case to amputate her entire right leg.
Manawatu / Whanganui
Our furbaby came home early one morning after being missing for a couple months but something wasn't right about how she was acting. I turned the light on and realised there was a bone sticking out of her right leg, so we frantically got dressed, chucked her into the cage and went straight to the emergency vet.
After being heavily sedated and x-rayed it was revealed that there was a break in both her top and bottom bone in her right leg. After a long discussion and having to rule out getting her bones pinned together because we just couldn't afford the $900 upfront and another $900 to pay off it was decided there was a good chance that her leg would heal if it was put in a cast..
But here, we are, after 4 rounds of sedation followed by xrays and another cast it appears that all that effort was for nothing. One bone has healed back but the other still wont join together no mater what. The vet is reluctant to do another cast because its been so long the heal wont be clean enough so we now have two options facing us: spend close to $2000 amputating her leg, or make the hard decision to euthanize her. We want to give her one final chance since its straightforward with little to no future complications as cats easily adapt.
So we're asking everyone for a bit of help. We are making contributions but we are struggling to pay the $600 arrears we currently owe, let alone the 50% cost upfront to get the amputation done. We know this a big ask but we know we need the help and feel like we're letting our furbaby down by letting the situation happen in the first place.
