KA TIPU ANO TE ORANGA - Rebuilding out of the ashes!
Te Araroa, Gisborne
It's anyone's worst nightmare, but now our Walker whanau's true reality! To lose everything but the clothes on their backs through the destruction of a ravaging house fire midst winter has been heartbreaking.
Uncle Leonard Walker has contributed to the small rural community of Te Araroa, East Coast for many decades and daughter Ripeka no different after returning home to the homestead to raise her babies. Ripekas sisters Rowena (Gizzy) & Jessie (Melbourne) often returning home to their ukaipo & whanau. The continued contribution they make is a legacy of many decades that was started by uncle Leonard's late mama (Nanny Kura Walker, a stalwart for any kaupapa in her time & responsibile for the revitalisation of te reo through the TKR movement in our community in the 1980's) and we know through growing up with the whanau, they have & continue to be great assets in the community - through farming, marae, kura, taiao kaupapa & much more!
The whanau were insured, but we are now reaching out for your support to help our whanau get back on their feet whilst they await reports & assessments to be done. If you're able to contribute a koha whether big or small, it would be greatly appreciated. We know it will help to alleviate the current pressure & the financial worry too as they begin to navigate a pathway to rebuild their lives & whare from the bottom up
"NA TOU ROUROU NA TOKU ROUROU KA ORA ANO TE WHANAU"
Nga mihi maioha, mihi nunui me te arohanui ano hoki ki a kotou katoa🙏🏾❤️😇🙌🏾
I am a cousin & lifelong friend of Ripeka - our families grew up together, our dads have farmed together for decades and also both serve on our local marae committees too. We still do life together as close whanau & friends today❤️
All koha & donations will go toward assisting the whanau with ongoing further living expenses & needs to live a normality of life whilst they begin the journey to rebuilding from the bottom. Also to meet any emergency & interim financial costs & burdens.
NGA MIHI AROHA 12 September 2025
Just a little update to let you know the whanau are doing well & have managed to get life back on track with the continous support of whanau and friends like that of each & every person or whanau that have contributed here to help no matter how big or small.
On behalf of the Walker whanau, I would like to take the opportunity to thank each & everyone that has generously donated koha to help put as the whanau continue to slowly rebuild their lives and bring back some normality amongst it all.
E kore e mutu nga mihi me te arohanui ki a kotou katoa. Truly grateful & appreciative of you all and you whakaaronui to the whanau❤️❤️❤️
