Cricket game on a dry lake to raise funds for the Red Cross and Ward Primary School post Earthquakes.
Marlborough
Last year we ran a cricket match on the dry bed of Lake Elterwater in Ward, Marlborough. This was a historical game on the Lake being the first known sport event on it
The day was a huge success supported by over 200 farming and Blenheim locals along with roadside passers by at a time of extreme drought in the Flaxbourne District.
This year the Lake has still not filled with the countryside remaining in drought and in November the community was struck by a large earthquake severely damaging or destroying over 30% of the homes in Flaxbourne.
At this time the Red Cross was massively involved in the support of the community.
To give back in some way, we are running another cricket match on the 25th of February on the Lakebed to raise funds for the Red Cross and Ward Primary School (50/50).
We will be running an auction post match.
Last year Skt Tvs 'The Cricket Show' covered the match and it was a highly entertaining day and event.
I am the organiser and farmer whose land the lake is upon.
All funds raised will be split 50/50 between the Red Cross and Ward Primary School.
A bank account has also been setup to manage funds and is co-signed by John Hickman (organiser) and Dave Paterson (Ward School teacher)
