Ōwhiro Bay family of five have lost almost entire contents of home and car in Wellington flood and will need to be temporarily relocated.
Owhiro Bay, Wellington
My brother Barnaby (Barn) Bocock and his partner, Catherine Leech, are one of the families in Wellington most significantly impacted by the current state of emergency in Wellington. Barn and Catherine have three children: Ryan (17); and twins Kaira and Mia (15), who attend Wellington High. Their family home in Ōwhiro Bay, where they have lived for 18 years, is located in low-lying land next to the Ōwhiro Bay stream. At 4am Monday morning, their entire house flooded in less than 10 minutes and the family had to evacuate in neck high water holding their two bunnies, Clover and Hugo, above their head. They left only wearing their pyjamas. They have lost almost the entire contents of their home, and their car, and the house is uninhabitable. They don't anticipate being able to return for the remainder of the year. The family are currently separated due to space restraints with Barn, Catherine and Ryan staying with family in Ngaiō and the twin girls and bunnies staying with friends in Ōwhiro Bay. They are currently a one-income family. Barn is a Shared Services Coordinator at Wētā FX; Catherine was made redundant in 2025 and has not yet found employment. They are devastated. While there was insurance in place, this won't cover everything. Anything you can give to help this family in need is greatly appreciated. Ngā mihi.
I am Barn Bocock's sister providing much needed support. Barn, Catherine and Ryan are currently living with me until alternative medium-term arrangements can be made.
Anything needed to get by in the short term, e.g. food, toiletries, petrol, etc. Medium-term temporary accommodation needs and additional costs associated with this. Long-term replacement items for home not covered by insurance and shortfall to replace car
