I've been selected for the Young Blake Expedition to the Sub-Antarctic Islands in February and I would really appreciate your support!
Auckland
Hi, I'm Oxana and I've been selected to be part of the Young Blake Expedition to the Sub-Antarctic. In February next year, we will be sailing to the Auckland Islands (these aren't anywhere near Auckland, but 465km south of Bluff).
The New Zealand Sub-Antarctic, including the Auckland Islands, is one of our most unique and precious environments - rugged and windswept, populated with wildlife like sea lions and albatrosses.
Our expedition will be travelling with scientists from NIWA, DOC and other organizations to carry out oceanographic mapping, climate research, wildlife monitoring, and conservation work. Student voyagers will be directly involved with this, as well as data collection for the feasibility of building a permanent research base, Blake Station, on the main island.
One of my individual roles will also be as a photographer, as nature photography (especially wildlife) is something I'm really passionate about. Three of my photos are shown above.
Travelling to the Sub-Antarctic will be an amazing opportunity to pursue the things I really love - science, photography, and conservation. Your help would mean so much - any amount (even just $5!) would make a huge difference.
