Paekakariki Orchard and Gardens Group (POG) is an incorporated society formed for the purpose of growing organic food together in Paekakariki. Our purpose is to grow community food resilience through sharing and increasing knowledge, growing edibles around the village, collecting and sharing resources including educational materials and gardening tools. All of this is wrapped up in our vision to strengthen and enhance our connected community and resilience across all ages, abilities, and socio/economic status.

In 2019, we licensed approximately 1 acre of derelict land from Kapiti District Council and since then have been converting this land into a Community Orchard which includes planting fruit and nut trees, vegetable growing and composting local food waste as part of our Kai Cycle project. To date we have planted 35 fruit and nut trees, grown loads of vegetables and are composting over 100kg of food waste every week!

POG is run by a dedicated group of volunteers from our Community and all funds raised go directly into buying fruit and nut trees, materials and running the Community Orchard, the more we raise the more we plant!
