One Dollar Warriors - PANIA'S STORY

In November 2014, after months of visiting doctor's for unexplained pain and feeling really unwell, I was diagnosed with stage IV bowel cancer that has spread to my liver, ovaries and throughout my stomach. The doctors advised that my situation was inoperable and my best hope would be for chemo to prolong my life between 12-24 months at best. They also said that if I don't start chemo immediately, I would only have 8-10 weeks to live. Initially I had accepted the prognosis, the timeframe and the only option I was offered by the doctors. My only thoughts through all of this were, "how could my children have a parent taken away from them? What did they do to deserve this? What is this going to do to them?" - all the usual thoughts any parent would have. Fortunately though, my sister did a lot of digging around and found some information on therapies that others had chosen to use in situations similar to mine and she pointed us in the direction of Vitamin C infusions. The more we looked into it, the more we found evidence and testimonials of it being beneficial in the fight against cancer. As soon as I found out about this I started the oral Vitamin C treatment until I could talk with someone about the infusions. Within a week of using this in conjunction with a complete diet and lifestyle change, I felt significantly better. The pain I had been experiencing all year had decreased considerably and my energy levels and general wellness had improved.  I decided there and then that I was going to beat this. I was not going to leave my beautiful babies without their Mama and I would do all I could to make sure not only that I am here for a longtime but that the time I am here is spent living well and to the fullest with beautiful family. A week later I got an appointment at a clinic that administers the Vitamin C treatment and the motivation I felt after that was amazing. There was no talk of when I die, only when I get better. I have since started my treatments and have met some amazing people over the last few weeks.  Currently I am having two Vitamin C infusion sessions each week. I know this has been working for me, and I am confident it will continue to.  The downside is the cost - it is over $600 each week for the treatment.  As you can imagine, this is incredibly difficult to fund.  I still work full-time because I didn't want this to define who I am and I did not want my children's childhood memories to be of mummy at home sick, and of course because I can’t afford not to work, as I have to fund my treatment.
