Paul bikes to Bluff

Paul Glass is entered for Tour Aotearoa, starting on the 17th February 2020. Tour Aotearoa is a 3000km self-supported bike ride from Cape Reinga to Bluff.

Paul is blind and will be riding his tandem bicycle with Russell Shanks. Paul has the physical and mental toughness required to become (what we believe is) the first blind person to ride Tour Aotearoa. Paul is 63 and has been fully blind for 6 years.

Paul is now a beneficiary as a result of his blindness and he needs your financial help to assist him with the costs of this challenge - training expenses for overnight trips before the event, some items of gear still required, travel expenses from Timaru to Cape Reinga, food and accommodation costs for approx 4 weeks of riding, the four ferry trips necessary and running repairs on his bicycle during the ride.

Paul is well supported in this challenge. His regular pilot is Russell Shanks, a leading finisher in the 2016 Tour Aotearoa and 2018 Tour Divide. Reserve pilot is Bryan Prestidge, also a TA finisher in 2016.

Since starting riding with Russell three years ago, Paul has progressed from 10km rides to 200km in a day, with multi-day rides and camping out, to experience the practicalities of tenting as a blind person
