Fundraising to ease the financial burden caused by Paul Fahey's battle with cancer.
Green Island, Dunedin
Paul Fahey is 56 years old, a real character known throughout Dunedin as a craftsman carpenter and a staunch Green Island Rugby supporter. Two weeks ago, Paul and his wife Ruth received the worst possible news, “your cancer is back”
Paul has been battling Melanoma since New year’s eve 2020 with a course of the drugs Dabrafenib and Trametinib. These drugs are not funded in New Zealand so Paul and Ruth have funded the treatment themselves. Despite battling through the side effects of this treatment for 9 months his cancer has now metastasized and spread throughout his body.
Paul has talked with us about two things he wishes for. First that he could hold on long enough to see his team “the Green Island Battlers” play again. Alas this is now looking unlikely. Second, that he does not leave behind the debt from his unsuccessful treatment. A treatment that has cost in excess of $50,000.00
You can help us achieve one of these wishes with a donation to this page. A little or a lot, every bit helps. We will be forever grateful for your donations and support to ease the stress on this lovely couple at such a difficult time.
We, the Stapley family, are long time close friends of Paul, Ruth and their family so will do whatever we can to help them.
Our original plan for this page was to raise funds to help Paul pay for the medication that would improve the quality of his life, recent news has made us turn our focus to raising funds to reduce the debt his cancer battle has created.
Thank you all 14 April 2022
Before I close this page, I would like to thank everyone who donated for their generosity and kind wishes. These funds will be a huge help to Ruth and the boys as they try to build a life without Paul.
Kind regards Glen Stapley.
