Help us erect a Pelorus Jack Sculpture in French Pass
Nationwide
Pelorus Jack was a world famous Risso Dolphin that guided steamboats in the outer Marlborough Sounds on their route from Wellington and Picton to Nelson in the mid 1880s. For years he frequented French Pass, and people booked passage on the boats just to see the white dolphin.
Danny Boulton had a vision to immortalise Pelorus Jack and give French Pass a permanent tangible reminder of the famous mammal.
He started this project years ago with an information board.
A sculpture has been designed as a further tribute to Pelorus Jack with the idea to have it erected in French Pass. The sculpture is the last phase of the project. The idea of a Pelorus Jack sculpture embodies his love for the sea, French Pass, and its dolphins. Danny left a large hole when he died of cancer on 23 June 2014. We would like to follow his Pelorus Jack idea through by erecting the sculpture in French Pass in Danny's name.
