Period Products For Schools' goal is to supply 2 low decile schools in Hastings with free period products for the rest of the year.
Hawke's Bay
Period Products For Schools is a project that I have created for my Rangers Advocacy project. The goal is to raise enough money to supply 2 low decile schools in Hastings with free period products for the rest of the year in a bid to reduce period poverty in Hastings.
A Youth19 study published in February 2020 found that 12% of New Zealand Yr9-13 students have had difficulty accessing period products due to cost. 5% of these students experience this once a month or more. In low-income areas, this number was reported to be about 20%. In decile 1 schools, over 21% of students had reported missing schools due to lack of period products, with 14% of these students missing more than a day a month.
But, despite this, period poverty is an issue that is not talked about enough, and there are many women and children who experience this and do not receive any help. I hope that this project will help reduce period poverty in the Hastings area by supplying free period products to the schools that most need it.
The money will be used to buy period products for the chosen schools. Any extra money raised will go towards buying sustainable options like menstrual cups, and, if we raise enough, that money will be used to supply a 3rd school with free period products. Fundraiser created by Hollie Raven.
