Purchase auto resetting rat traps to maximise pest control activities in public reserves
Auckland
Pest free programmes have been set up in multiple North Shore reserves, with Council support. Aim to support the Govt mandate of Pest Free NZ by 2050 and preserve NZ local flora and fauna. A huge amount of time is required from the current volunteers, to regularly monitor existing traps. We aim to purchase Good Nature resetting traps to ensure maximum pest control coverage wile minimise volunteer hours required to support pest free.
We are a small group of volunteers working in the Bayview and Greenhithe areas to protect NZ's local flora and fauna by trapping and killing pests to support NZ government's mandate to have NZ "pest free' by 2050.
We are currently running pest control programmes in 4 reserves i.e. Kereru, Dene Court, Glendhu Scenic Reserve and Bonito Scenic Reserve and initially will place the new traps in these areas. If enough funding is received we would like to extend the trapping to 5 additional reserves in Unsworth Heights as these reserves form part of the Northwestern Link and have been shown to be the habitat for large kauri trees in Hellyers Creek Basin area.

More funding required to purchase the required traps to stop the possums and rats…we have also started door knocking around the local area to increase awareness
