Raise funds for first round of injections

Hawke's Bay

My name is Phil Ward, I'm a 39 year old early childhood teacher living in Napier with bowel cancer. I was diagnosed with a flu for 4 months then got really sick and was admitted to hospital in 2020. I was told I had bowel cancer with maybe 12 hours to live. It was brutal but that's how it started. Over the weeks the doctors found small solutions & extended my life expectancy for 3 months. During that time, a surgeon came forward & said he was willing to operate & attempt to remove the cancers so that took place & I had chemo to follow up.

After chemo I had 3 months with no treatment & a routine scan picked up early stages of cancer reforming but I was offered another treatment that I was told could cost 60k for 10 treatments.

Though I have been challenged during this time, I know God has been with me & is taking me through a chance to partner with him. I would like to continue to work in the community & support children & teenagers once we overcome this hurdle.

God's words have said that this isn't the end of my life. I just don't know how long it will take me to get there. It takes some faith. That's the core of why I think that I feel this is something God wants me to do. Now I am pursuing the opportunity to get to full restoration and I am choosing to begin it in the hope that I can complete it. I have had 3 treatments so far and I have up to 7 remaining.

After I finished chemo I was clear of tumors until a scan picked up some reforming outside of the bowel in the tummy region of my body in March. I have cancer as an illness, there is a treatment that could cure me. It gives me hope but it is very expensive. Immunotherapy is a treatment I have been offered that is very effective against the form of tumor I have. The medication is called Atezolizumab. It's effective to the point of potentially being curative although it is not currently funded in NZ. These donations will go directly to paying off the 3 weekly treatments. I am part way through & can only complete this treatment with the support of those in my community

I am reaching out to you to ask if you can help me overcome this obstacle & achieve full restoration. I am hoping you can partner with me. Any support you can give, small or big will help me.

Treatment goal reached, Thank you heaps!  18 June 2021

Thank you heaps to everyone who donated! Over the month the givealittle was open the response was amazing. $8000 came in on the first day and over the month that followed I recieved enough support to have a full treatment of 10 injections. This is a real blessing. Thank you to all those who contacted me and encouraged me. I am still focused on recovery at this stage, this fundraising campaign has given me hope that I can progress from recovery back into work and normal life. Thanks for playing your part in making this possible. Much love, Phil

Hey Phil, it sounds like your 2020 year was tougher than mine, and I thought Melbourne lockdowns were rough. A shame the treatment isn't covered, but I believe a community can help you out there.
