Our flat cat Phoebe was the victim of a hit and run resulting in a broken front leg in need of a costly amputation!
Wellington
After arriving home following a weekend away, we discovered our flat cat Phoebe in a distressing amount of pain, unable to put pressure on her front left leg.
After an emergency trip to the late night vet, we discovered that she had a fracture just above her left humerus, which was unable to be put in a cast, requiring surgery.
It was so bad she almost had to be put down on the spot. There was no way we were ready to let her go like that. We are currently trying to pay off the hefty fee from the emergency vet for keeping her overnight and all the pain relief they provided.
When Phoebe was taken to our vet the next day, the conclusion was made that because there is no reason an otherwise perfectly healthy cat should be put down, and surgery could just result in further complications, that we would have her leg amputated.
My flatmate Mallory has had Phoebe since she was a kitten, and now that she's 11 years old, she is well and truly part of the family. She is the most lovable, kind-natured and animated cat I've ever met, and anybody who meets her automatically falls in love with her.
Our hearts break at the prospect of losing our little bean, and as University students with extremely limited funds, we are asking the wider cat loving community for support to get Phoebe back on her (to be three) paws!
I am involved in this cause to help my flatmate Mallory raise funds to save our flat mascot Phoebe.
Phoebe's Home! 10 September 2015
Little Phoebe came home this evening! She's all cuddled up and purring loudly on mum's bed on her favourite blue blankie.
The vets said she was much more chatty today and going round to everyone for lots of pats and cuddles. She's finally figuring out how to stand up after lying down all by herself!
Once she got home she got a bit frustrated trying to eat her favourite food because her big collar got in the way. She's still trying to do everything she used to and she gets a bit upset when she can't. But after a while she settles down and is happy enough to sleep and receive all the pats!
She'll be going back to the vets on Saturday morning for a check up.
In the mean time, let's hope she doesn't keep trying to jump up on everything - I really don't want any stitches opening but she's already so darn quick it's hard to catch her!
