This Givealittle Environment Page for Puke Kopipi will end in 5 days, so we need your help, please take this opportunity to donate for trees.

We are a dedicated organised Volunteer Group and we are determined to replant these July Rain Slips. No doubt it will take several years.

Thank you so much to those who have donated for plants. Altogether this winter we have planted 2550 Native trees, 540 flax. We have lost some Manuka high up in the slips, in the recent dry weather but we will replant all the Slips again next winter.

We have had two 'Watering Bees' and we begin our Spring Weed Management this Saturday with a further Working Bee. Right now we have beautiful rain for Puke Kopipi, not too much! so that is really encouraging for our new recent plantings in the slips.

    Thank you for your help

    Robyn

  • Summer dry is coming

      4 October 2020

Winter Planting is now completed, the weather is getting too dry, so we have actually had a ‘Watering Bee’ ...already. We have tried to water as many new plantings as we can, lots of work....!

Thankyou so much to all our regular amazing Volunteers and to those who have donated for plants. Altogether this winter we have planted 2550 Native trees, 540 flax. We have lost some Manuka high up in the slips, in the recent dry weather but we will replant all the Slips again next winter.

We will be grateful for continuing donations to fund next year’s plants, no doubt it will take several years to cover the Slips.

    Thank you for your help

    Robyn

On August 22 our wonderful Volunteers planted the bottom slip and areas close by, we salvaged what we could also and replanted these. It was a really satisfying Working Bee.

    A special note from Vikki

'Puke Kopipi is still a beautiful tribute to you and the team. It remains an inspiring destination for everyone once it is healed and nature is a powerful healer. Its a privilege to take part. What a lovely day yesterday.'

In 2 days time a digger is clearing the tracks and then this Saturday September 5 we will plant what we can of the main slips above and our last effort before it gets too dry again, will be on September 19. We have had heavy rain and so far Puke Kopipi is holding and seems stable.

Please help us by donating for plants, this our last chance to avoid scars and prevent further erosion.

  • Planting the top slip

Our hardy positive group put new plants in on Saturday August 8, it was somewhat surreal being down in it but we did and later in the day the sun shone! A few days later Northland had more huge rain but our new planting has survived.

Please help us to fund more plants, we have a window of opportunity to get them in before the end of September, otherwise summer weather will make for permanent scars. Thank you!
