We're making a film about being Polynesian and 'plastic'. We'd love your support!
Auckland
Hey team, we’re Elijah Fa’afiu (Director) and Jamey Bailey (Producer).
We're in our third and final year of a Communications Bachelor, majoring in Television and Screen Production. Our final project is called “Polynesian and Plastic”, and we're making a film.
This documentary looks at Pacific Islanders who choose to ignore, or struggle to embrace their heritage within New Zealand. More specifically it looks at the term “plastic”. Plastic is used to describe someone, whether they’re a Pacific Islander, Maori, Asian or anyone who doesn’t know the language or understand their culture. Our film will follow the journey of a Samoan who identifies as being “plastic", and how they take strides to discover themselves.
The two of us are really passionate about this project as we both identify as “plastic”.
This documentary provides a voice for Pacific Islanders to tell stories from a perspective not often represented, particularly in PI circles.
Any donations will go towards hiring equipment, catering for our crew and helping us create the best film we possibly can. Any excess funds that are not used for this film will go towards the tamariki supported by KidsCan. Thousands of young Kiwis are going without basic necessities and we want to give them the same opportunities our whānau gave to us. KidsCan supports a large number of Polynesian families every day and we’d like to contribute to this amazing cause through our film.
Any support you can provide will be greatly appreciated. If you cannot donate, sharing this link and spreading awareness about our documentary are also great ways to get behind us as we embark on this journey.
Film production. Gear hiring costs. Kai for the crew. Any excess will be donated to children in need.
