Yesterday the first Samoan Health Mission team of Samoan nurses left for Samoa to assist relieve some of the frontline nurses who have not had a break for months now.

Established ten years ago in response to the tsunami Samoa relief efforts, the Samoa Health Mission is a group of overseas Samoan nurses and health workers that have come together ready to respond to Samoa’s aid in time of trouble.

Samoa Health Mission is again full filling it’s purpose and desire.

To date, 53 measles related deaths have been recorded.

Here is how you can be part of the relief efforts:

1. Please donate to the MEASLES SAMOA FUND APPEAL.

Overseas donations can use the Givealittle page MEASLES SAMOA FUND APPEAL:

2. Contact Tuala Tagaloa Tusani on (+6421) 0223-8663 or email tagaloatusani@gmail.com if you wish to be involved in the collection of hygiene supply for Samoa. We have collection points in Auckland and Sydney with other overseas cities to be confirmed soon.

3. By sharing our updates to people that care of what’s happening in Samoa. If you want to help and for more information contact Teleiai Edwin Puni on (+6421) 618-042 or email: edwin@puni.co.nz

While help from New Zealand, Australia and Tahiti with vaccinations have arrived, what is not accounted for is the trauma and social impact that the measles situation is having and will continue to have on families, and those on the frontline.

The crisis of the mind and heart also deserves attention and support.

The MEASLES SAMOA FUND APPEAL is free giving from the heart to the people directly affected with the loss of a child due to the measles outbreak in Samoa. It is administered by a NZ senior health professional and ASA Foundation.

Christmas this year will be a sad one for these families... we want to reach out to them with your help.
