Help Amelia to reach her milestones and have a better chance at an independent life
Bay of Plenty
Amelia is a beautiful 2 year old ray of sunshine. She has an 8 year old brother and 12 year old sister who are amazing with her (most of the time!) and make her giggle ALOT:)
At 9mths of age Amelia had a 45 minute long seizure & had to be hospitalised. Since then she has had 5 seizures. An MRI & TAC showed structural abnormalties suggesting loss of white matter, an absent Posterior Pituitary bright spot, & a Dysgenesis of the Corplus Callosum, which is a rare, congenital brain defect. Amelia was diagnosed with brain damage that causes her to have global development delays, Epilepsy and she cannot sit, crawl or talk yet.
Amelia's mother Sara can no longer work & is now her full time caregiver.
The family have been saving for the last 12 months to take Amelia to Australia to attend a 3 week intensive treatment at the Centre of Movement to help with motor skills and enhance functional abilities, however treatment is $15k per treatment & she will require between 2-3 treatments a year for it to be beneficial. These types of rehabilitation centers do not exist here in NZ.
We have organised this page on behalf of the family who are so motivated to try everything possible to give their daughter a chance at a normal & independent life.
Sara is trying online home based treatments also, however both of these methods are private, costly & require a constant commitment. The cuts in funding for the disabled which took place recently have hit all families hard & they need some help.
We work with Amelia's father Brendon, when he told us their story & struggles we just had to do something to help, he is such a genuine human, the whole family sacrifices & are trying to do the absolute best by their little girl, they needed help so here we are!
The money will help the family who has been saving for the last year to take Amelia to Australia for Intensive Theraphy to help her with much needed motor skills and functional abilities like sitting and communicating etc.
