Canterbury

ITS A LONG READ BUT PLEASE READ Okay everyone I dont usually do this sort of stuff but we are really struggling , my best friend buster who is a 2 year old German shepherd/Irish wolfhound has been through hell and back the last week! last Thursday I get a phone call from my mum saying he has been hit by 2 cars on the main north road , she was just unloading some groceries from the car and buster saw one of his friends across the other side of this 4 laned road and buster being the friendly soul he is he thought he would sprint out the gate and run across to say hi , made it across the first 2 lanes but got clipped by a car on the other lane and his whole rear body ran over by another car, he is the friendliest happiest dog you could ever meet and really really active , loves climbing up slides and jumping through all sorts of tires and agility courses , will give anything and everything he can a go !!

but sadly this incident has caused buster an extreme amount of pain and sadness

His back right leg got dislocated in the crash and had moved all his ligaments over 4inchs, he has 3rd degree burns on the whole underside of his stomach, he has stitches in 2 of his other legs and cuts and bruises everywhere

We took him to a vet which we thought was a very good and caring vet but it turns out that that wasn't the best decision as they put his leg into a sling and bandaged him up and had I'm on an I.v line over night, that night buster had managed to get to his leg where the i.v line was and managed to bite the line out , if the vet got there any later that morning he would have bleed to death , we got him home the next day and he started to settle down but he really smelt bad! We thought it was just the wounds etc so we put up with it for the night , the next day mum didn't feel like he was doing to good so took him for a 2nd opinion at another vet , I can't be more thankful that she did that !!

The 2nd vet took one look at him and could tell that the smell is dead skin and infection and knew he wasn't on enough pain medication and the wounds and burns were really starting to get even more infected so she got straight into him and put him under anesetic to clean him up,

The vets later rung us that night to explain the worst is happening, busters leg had got that badly infected it had turned gangrene and was being eaten from the inside out and if we didn't act fast he was going to die , so then we had to make the decision whether to put him down but I just couldn't do it , he's not just a dog he's family!!

So now buster has had his back leg amputated and alot more stitches and bandages all over him he is really doing well but very unsettled with an i.v line in still and lots of codeine and has to be back at the vet everyday for a clean up

The people that hit him have also been around on our door step asking for thousands of dollars to repair the front of there car I understand it's not there fault but what is insurance for !?!?

This is going to be a very long road but he is going to get there the one thing we are worrying about is the thousands of dollars this is all costing and it's not over yet as he's going to need physio and we have been looking at getting him into hydrotherapy to get him active and help heal faster

I know there's alot of people out there that are thinking he's just a dog but he's really alot more than that too us , we will do everything and anything to have him back up and running around like he's still on 4

So please if you can help in anyway myself and my family would be greatly appreciated as it is getting really tough seeing him like this and the sooner we can get him back up and running the better !!!

Thankyou
