Please Help Charlie on His Road to Recovery 🧡

Āwhitu, Auckland

On 3 October, 13-year-old Charlie was involved in a serious skiing accident. He is currently in Waikato Hospital, bravely facing an incredibly tough recovery journey. Charlie has sustained multiple serious injuries, including multiple fractured vertebrae so will need to be in a wheelchair for over a year, possibly longer, depending on surgery and rehabilitation outcomes.

I first met Emily, Charlie’s mum, when she and her family moved to the Awhitu Peninsula — we’ve been close friends ever since, and I’ve always admired her strength and warmth. I know that both Emily and Charlie have the determination and courage to face this challenge, but right now they need our support more than ever.

As Charlie focuses on healing, we want to rally around Emily to help ease the financial pressures that come with such an unexpected and difficult time.

All funds raised will go directly towards supporting Emily and Charlie — helping cover travel costs to the hospital, household bills, medical needs, and allowing Emily to stay by Charlie’s side without the added burden of financial stress.

Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference for this wonderful family as they navigate the long road ahead.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, generosity, and support. 💛

One Month Today  3 November 2025

Posted by: Emily Lane

Hello everyone, thank you all so much for supporting us on this journey while we try to get Charlie back on his feet again. It's been one month today, and we're starting to see some small but steady signs of progress. He's now able tpo sit up and get into a wheelchair for a short period each day, and his pain levels are starting to decrease. There's a long road ahead of us yet in this journey, but it feels like we're over the first part. I appreciate the support that you've all shown us, it'll help with his recovery so much and allowing me to be able to focus solely on getting him better. Nga mihi, Emily xx

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
