    HI everyone, we have now reached the 1st anniversary of Charlie's accident, and this page is about to close. I just wanted to reach out and say an enormous thank you to everyone who has helped out and supported us on this most brutal of journeys. Fair to say, it's not an experience I would wish on anyone. I do know that without your support, life would have been even more difficult, but I am so grateful and deeply, deeply appreciative of you all. Charlie still has a very tough road ahead in his recovery, so it's hard to say what the future holds, but we are over the worst part now I hope. He still has more surgery required further down the track, but we'll cross that particluar bridge when we come to it. Love from Emily and Charlie xxx Thank you all again!!!

  • Charlie's Recovery, Eleven Months On..

    Hi everyone, my apologies for so long between updates. It's fair to say it has been a very long and heartbreaking journey, and one that has been very overwhelming and traumatic for us both. Charlie was released from hospital on the 27th of December, and spent the next 3 months recovering to be well enough to travel home to Oamaru. The input from ACC has been the bare minimum with significant delays so far, so I wish to sincerely thank everyone who has supported us along the way, as your assistance has been invaluable. It's meant that I've been able to get Charlie to weekly osteopath and accupuncture appointments in Dunedin and other rehab, none of which has been funded by ACC. We are currently trying to get him into the Wilson Home, which is a specialist paediatric rehab in Auckland. Unfortunately, Charlie was denied access to this service for reasons that cannot be disclosed. I'm horrified by what has happened and am trying my hardest to get to the bottom of this, so that it doesn't happen to anyone else.

    I believe that had he been able to attend earlier, his recovery would be looking vastly different now. On a positive note, his mobility and weightbearing ability has improved significantly over the past few weeks, and he is now able to walk short distances unassisted, and is able to use the crutches for the bulk of his movements. As his bones are still growing and he has youth on his side, we are hopeful for a good outcome :-)

  • One Month Today

    Hello everyone, thank you all so much for supporting us on this journey while we try to get Charlie back on his feet again. It's been one month today, and we're starting to see some small but steady signs of progress. He's now able tpo sit up and get into a wheelchair for a short period each day, and his pain levels are starting to decrease. There's a long road ahead of us yet in this journey, but it feels like we're over the first part. I appreciate the support that you've all shown us, it'll help with his recovery so much and allowing me to be able to focus solely on getting him better. Nga mihi, Emily xx
