Claude is ill and needs ongoing treatment

Canterbury

We first met Claude when visiting my parents house in November 2009. I thought was a kitten, but after talking to my nephew later that day we realized he was actually 15 - 18 months old.

In Retrospect he was probably never looked after properly and this could explain his current health problems .

The next time we saw Claude was April 2015 He was now living in my Dads garden, having befriended Dad and was killing mice for sustenance According to Dad he was hanging around the neighborhood making a nuisance of himself since his previous owners had abandoned him. My special needs daughter begged me to give him a forever home.

Soon after getting him home we took him to the local vets, McMaster & Heap for a check up & his vaccinations. At this point I thought he was 5 years old. I did what I thought was right thing at the time due to my limited income - took out pet insurance

After a check up a year later in August 2016 we discovered not only did he have a heart problem but he had a thyroid issues too, something that only happens to older cats .

As soon as I realised his age was incorrect I cancelled the insurance as claiming would have resulted in fraud charges. Now I had no pet insurance and increasing vet bills . Another month on Claude wasn't very well so we took him back to the vets and discovered he had pancreatitis and needed to be admitted into the clinic as he was very sick .

We had a couple of options at this stage, either carry on with treatment or put him down. I felt with losing Dad at end of June this was not a option so I ended up having to max out my credit cards to pay the vet bills . Following this treatment we got him back to health .

Because of all the medication he has to take we have been making weekly payments to the vet clinic to try & keep ahead .

In the start of 2018 we had a couple of vet visits and bloods done to check on him and the bills started mounting up again. In April 2018 we discovered his kidneys weren't working as well as they could be and more meds were required .

Because we don't want to lose our baby any little bit of help would be very much appreciated

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
