PLEASE HELP EMILY LIVE A NORMAL LIFE

$385 donated
Given by 11 generous donors in one year

Dexcom G6 will give Emily and her family a chance to live a normal life.

Waikato

Emily is 14yrs old and was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes coming up 4 years ago.

Type 1 Diabetes is a chronic autoimmune condition. A condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin.

Managing Type 1 diabetes is a full-time and demanding job, which can also be isolating for Emily and our family.

What does this mean for Emily and our family? Emily does a blood test (finger prick), every 2 hours or more, this lets us know what her levels are so we can avoid any Hypoglycemia (Lows). Hypoglycemia are life threatening if not caught and treated in time can lead to coma and death.

Having lows also restrict Emily from participating in activities, as she is unable to move until her levels are within range. This can be very isolating and upsetting for Emily especially as she is Year 9 at High School and want to be just like another child.

This is a small device that sits under the skin and is a Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) System.

With Dexcom G6, you can see your current glucose level and where it is heading with just a glance. Real-time readings can also be seen myself and other people on our smart device from the other side of the town.

This means ZERO fingerpicks, being able to have more control of her levels, giving Emily more independents and freedom to be just a kid. This also means the rest of the family can carry on with their lives too.
