Please Help Give Kelly the Gift of Sight

Kelly (my Grandma) has been diagnosed with macular degeneration. This damages the macula, a small spot near the center of the retina and the part of the eye needed for sharp, central vision, which lets us see objects that are straight ahead.

Kelly has been to see an eye specialist who has not only confirmed macular degeneration, but has also confirmed cataracts in both eyes. The specialist needs to be able to see to back of the eyes to confirm how advanced the macular degeneration is. Before he is able to do this, the cataracts need to be removed. The Specialist has told Kelly that it is important that this is done quickly and therefore private surgery to remove the cataracts has been recommended. The cost of this surgery is $8000 NZD and is an unobtainabe amount for Kelly to pay by herself.

The specialist has told Kelly that even with the cataracts removed, she will regain a lot of her sight (she is now partially blind in one eye) and then further treatment options can be looked in to for the macular degeneration.

Kelly is struggling to accept the quite rapid loss of sight that she is experiencing and is heartbroken that she is unable to drive and do a lot of things for herself that a short time ago she was able to do. Her impaired eyesight is also making her off balance and we are very worried about her having a fall.

I am hoping that there are some generous souls out there who are willing to donate whatever amount that they can so that my beautiful Grandma can see all of the world that she can. She has lots of great grand babies she needs to see too!
